Gelbes Billett Musik

  • The History

The origins of Gelbes Billett Musik are found in an old metal-works factory, a few minutes outside of Basel-City. Two friends with a passion for raving came across a labyrinth of rundown rooms with rusty metal hooks hanging everywhere, an uneven floor and walls not only losing their paint, but actively dissolving. From its early beginnings as a location for illegal techno-parties in 2001 all the way to its magical closing party in 2011, this club called Presswerk embodied raving in its essence: dark, hot and incredibly intense.

Inspired by those nights, various Presswerk-regulars had gotten busy in their studios, their music needing an outlet. Thus, the label „Gelbes Billett Musik“ (Yellow Ticket Music) came into life, in its name paying tribute to the original invitations for the first few illegal parties at Presswerk: you had to take a yellow tram from the city centre to reach it.

Since Presswerk’s demise, the label has gained in consistency and output, becoming a platform that takes its cues from beyond the beloved club it originated from. The roster consists pretty much of the original core of DJ’s and producers from the Presswerk-family, with an additional select new names and faces. All artists involved are consistently pushed to search beyond their boundaries and comfort zones in their quest for creative expression. At the same time, musicians far away from the electronic clubscene have turned into collaborators, simply by sharing a magic moment on the floor with so many others and looking for ways to express that experience. It’s this primal feeling of companionship, collaboration and shared creative energy, that Gelbes Billett Musik seeks to tap into.
